Inverloch and Venus Bay

Inverloch

The protected waters of Anderson Inlet make the coastal town of Inverloch a favourite holiday spot. Swimmers, water sports enthusiasts and surfers flock to the beaches during warmer months, while the surrounding walks and drives make the village a popular year-round destination.

Try a new water sport or practice your favourite one at Inverloch's pristine beaches. The still waters of Anderson Inlet make wakeboarding or windsurfing a breeze, while the surf beach is a great spot to introduce children (or beginners) to surfing. Try Eagles Nest if you are a confident surfer. Charter a boat or take a cruise to enjoy Inverloch from the water.

Time your visit to coincide with the Labour Day long weekend and join in the fun and festivities of the Inverloch Jazz Festival or hit the Sounds of Summer in December, a family-friendly music food and wine festival.

Explore the many boardwalks and coastal trails to discover the town's beautiful natural surroundings. Wander down the kid-friendly Screw Creek Nature Walk to explore the marshlands, which lead to gorgeous views of Anderson Inlet. For a bit of fresh sea air, stroll along the cliffs of the George Bass Coastal Walk or get the legs pumping on Victoria's only coastal rail trail, the Bass Coast Rail Trail.

Inverloch is a perfect stopover point for those driving from Phillip Island and continuing on to Wilsons Promontory. Enjoy the spectacular views of Bass Strait from the cliff tops along the 12-kilometre Bunurong Coastal Drive between Inverloch and Cape Paterson. The drive passes many natural attractions ready to explore, such as Eagles Nest, Twin Reefs, Shack Bay, The Caves and Flat Rocks.

Experience the wild waters and golden sands of the South Gippsland coastline at Venus Bay, a small settlement nestled in vegetated sand dunes. The town has a population of around 500, but can surge into the thousands as anglers, surfers and families converge during holiday periods.

Travel just outside the town to five superb surf beaches patrolled by surf lifesavers in the summer months. Find safe, sheltered beaches ideal for swimming at the state's longest sand spit at Anderson Inlet.

Make your way along the coast from Venus Bay to Cape Liptrap Coastal Park for the chance to explore the rock pools, caves and historic lime kilns at Walkerville South. On the way out, take a detour to visit the spectacular Cape Liptrap Lighthouse.

The calm waters of Anderson Inlet make it an ideal destination for both boating and fishing. Cruise out and explore the inlet that extends all the way from Inverloch to the mouth of the Tarwin River and cast a line for flathead, salmon, tailor, whiting and trevally.
