South Coast - Kiama

The powerful Kiama Blowhole is one of the world’s largest natural water spouts. Nearby is the Pilot’s Cottage Museum, which tells Kiama’s intriguing maritime story. And the vibrant cafe culture and other delicious food and wine experiences, from wine tasting to beachside markets, are enticing too.

For stunning views, enjoy the Kiama Coast Walk. This spectacular 22km trail is broken into three sections and weaves past headlands, rivers and beaches to Blow Hole Point, before passing beautiful bays and beaches around Little Blowhole and then on to Gerringong, a quintessential seaside town.

Surfing, bodyboarding, kayaking and fishing are popular. A range of tours is available, including surf lessons with Surf Camp Australia and Land’s Edge , stand-up paddleboarding with SUP DownUnder and kayaking with Escape Kayak Tours and South Coast Safaris. A beautiful seaside escape, Gerroa is at the northern end of spectacular Seven Mile Beach. The beach is a famous chapter in world aviation history. Aviator Charles Kingsford Smith made the first commercial flight from Australia to New Zealand in January 1933, using the beach as a runway.

Enjoy whale watching between May and November. You can spot humpback and other majestic whales from vantage points along the coastline. Ideal locations to spot whales are Minnamurra, Bombo and Marsden headlands, as well as Blow Hole Point and the Black Head Reserve in Gerroa.

Golfers will be pleased with the excellent golf courses and impressive views from Kiama Golf Club, Gerringong Golf Club and Jamberoo Golf Club in Jamberoo, a charming village just west of Kiama. Nearby are the Minnamurra Rainforest, Jamberoo Action Park and Illawarra Fly Treetop Adventures.

It's easy to experience Kiama like a local. Kiama is on the Grand Pacific Drive touring route. A scenic train trip from Sydney to Kiama is only 2h 15min.
